MOA CommitteesProfessional Advocacy Committee (Legislative)Committee Charge: To actively pursue and monitor legislative agendas pertinent to the successful progress of the Osteopathic Profession; increase the osteopathic profession visibility with the Maine State Legislature and governmental agencies; keep members actively informed during the legislative session; address and become active in interprofessional issues; and actively seek donations to the Maine Osteopathic Association Political Action Committee (MOPAC) to support the Association’s legislative activities and to ensure the election of candidates who support the osteopathic physician community. In 2024 the MOA's Legislative Committee will convene with the Maine Medical Association. Committee Chair: Kathryn Brandt, D.O. Professional and Public Education Committee (Program)Committee Charge: To develop high quality osteopathic CME programs-Annual Convention and the Midwinter Conference; promote the osteopathic profession throughout the State of Maine and the New England Region; and enhance the MOA visibility with residents and students. Committee Co-Chairs: Breanna Glynn, D.O. & John Diefenderfer, D.O. Membership CommitteeCommittee Charge: To maximize the base of the membership to operate the association efficiently and effectively through recruitment and outreach; develop a broad member services and benefits (including recruitment of “Preferred Business Partners”). Committee Chair: K. Emily Redding, D.O. Medical Economics CommitteeCommittee Charge: To ensure that the osteopathic profession is represented at the third party payor level (i.e. managed care and health insurance companies), and at the Federal/State Regulatory level (MaineCare, Medicare, Worker’s Comp); ensure that the effectiveness and efficacy of OMT is demonstrated to third party payors; inform and educate members on the proper methods of solving disputes with third party payors; and promote correct coding and billing education or maximize physician reimbursement. In 2023-2024 this committee is tasked with expanding support to include resources for all DOs, regardless of practice setting or specialty. Committee Chair: Leigh (Jack) Forbush, D.O. Technology and Communications CommitteeCommittee Charge: To increase the visibility and awareness of osteopathic medicine; to promote the Maine Osteopathic Association through timely and effective communications utilizing advanced technology; and to develop short and long-term infrastructure and user-friendly technology for both internal and external communications. Committee Chair: Leigh (Jack) Forbush, D.O. Finance and Sustainability CommitteeCommittee Charge: To develop short and long-term plans that will result in financial stability for the organization including partnering with the Membership Committee on the membership drive to increase dues revenue; developing new ways to seed our endowment; and engaging the membership in discussions about planned giving. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) CommitteeCommittee Charge: Raising awareness of issues of equity impacting our communities; Creating more inclusivity, representation and space to learn and grow together within our organization.
